The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (DA-BAFE) conducted the Capability Enhancement Training for the GIP for ABE Youth Interns from May 16 to 20, 2022 at Chalet Hotel, Baguio City, Benguet. The blended training (face-to-face- and online via Cisco Webex) was participated by one hundred forty-five (145) interns from all regions nationwide except CALABARZON and BARMM.

During the opening program, Engr. Danilo Daguio (Regional Technical Director for Operations), Engr. Filemon Salvador (RAED Chief), and Engr. Corazon Ngowepan (RAED-Standards Regulation and Enforcement Section Chief) of DA-RFO CAR commended the objectives of the government internship program for agricultural and biosystems engineers (GIP for ABE Youth). The three officials likewise underscored GIP for ABE Youth’s importance and contribution to the attainment of the programs and projects implemented by the Department of Agriculture.

The aim of the five-day training is to enhance the competence of the GIP for ABE Youth interns in performing various agri-fishery engineering activities of DA-BAFE and DA-Regional Agricultural Engineering Divisions (RAEDs) as part of their internship. These activities include site validation for agricultural production, postharvest, and processing machinery equipment and facilities; solar-powered irrigation system (SPIS) and solar-powered fertigation system (SPFS); farm-to-market roads; feasibility study preparation and evaluation for agri-fisheries mechanization and infrastructure projects; and geotagging.

An orientation on the existing Reference Manual of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment (Compendium); guidelines and procedures on agri-fishery engineering regulations; and Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Management Information System (ABEMIS) were also conducted.

In his closing remarks, DA-BAFE Director Ariodear C. Rico encouraged ABE Youth interns to give their best in performing their assigned duties and responsibilities in the agency where they are deployed because this will contribute effectively in their career growth.
