DA-BAFE Assistant Director Juana Tapel welcomes Senior High School (Grade 12) students from Balingasa High School in Balintawak, Quezon City taking the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) strand of the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track as they start their first day of internship in DA-BAFE office

This is the first time that DA-BAFE is supervising Senior High School interns because in the past, the Bureau has catered to college students particularly those taking Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering course.

We can see that you’re still young that’s why I tell my colleagues to handle you with care. We will be doing this internship with almost professionalism,” Asst. Dir. Tapel told the interns. “We want every one of you to learn and pick up the knowledge that can be obtained so when the time comes, you will have the something to use in facing the challenges of life.”

During the orientation, Ms. Anna Rica Abayon, Chief of BAFE’s Human Resources Section, discussed the responsibilities of interns which include submission of periodic reports and requirements as well as completion of the required number of hours and days worked defined under their respective curriculum and the Memorandum of Understanding among others.

On their first day of internship, the interns were introduced to BAFE-SRED Chief Engr. Janice Vargas. Part of their responsibilities is to assist, coordinate, and facilitate in the conduct of activities of the Bureau and perform all other tasks as may be required by the Division Chief.

The interns will go around and will be assigned in the different divisions of DA-BAFE to learn about the various functions and processes in the office. To familiarize the interns with the operations of the bureau, representatives from the different divisions of DA-BAFE presented their respective division’s mandate and functions.

The senior high school students are required to complete 240 hours in a span of six weeks of internship, said Ms. Ana Isabel Dupla, the interns’ adviser and ICT Coordinator. DA-BAFE was considered by the school to immerse the students in technology as well as develop their computer related skills. Hopefully their immersion in BAFE would encourage the students to pursue an ICT- related career, Ms. Dupla added. ###DA-BAFE ICTST
